I’ll update this post every single week to make things easier. Enjoy.

1 | Every recommendation in The Plan
Every Monday, I feature locals with a “niche expertise.” I call it the Ask an Expert column. It’s all authentic recs. No ads. Just straight-up advice, tips and recs from real local parents. A few of these posts are paywalled, but not all.
As a thank you for your recommendations, each “expert” who participates in this column gets a 3-month Premium membership to The Plan, which gives them access to the calendar. If you have an idea, get in touch.
Here’s what I’ve published so far:
PLACES TO TAKE YOUR KIDS FISHING
KID-FRIENDLY PLACES TO VOLUNTEER
KID-FRIENDLY DINING OUT RECS
KID-FRIENDLY SHOPPING
KID-FRIENDLY LOCAL TRAVEL
KID-FRIENDLY LIVE THEATER & MUSIC RECS
These two posts were published in Spring 2025, but keep an eye on this section as I will be doing an update every season.
AT-HOME PLAY
DATE NIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS
KID-FRIENDLY SPOTS TO HANG OUTDOORS
KID-FRIENDLY SPOTS TO PLAY INDOORS
SEASONAL KID-FRIENDLY EVENTS
I’ve done all sorts of seasonal event roundups, like: Easter egg hunts, Father’s Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day, summer carnival season and Christmastime events. You can bet that if it’s a big kid-friendly time of year, I’ll be publishing an event roundup or guide.
HOW TO MAKE & MAINTAIN FRIENDS
I published this two-part series in March 2025, and subscribers loved it. Great advice for when you’re planning to attend a kid-friendly event.
2 | Every “What’s Coming Up” post
These roundup emails are a list of the handful of events I think you probably need to plan ahead, buy tickets or register for in advance. Premium subscribers get these in their inbox every Friday morning. If you want to browse the archive, click here:

3 | How do I submit an event to The Plan?
Right now, I only add events to The Plan calendar that kiddos can do with their parent/caregiver on the weekend. If yours fits the bill, just email me at kaylakaplowitz@substack.com or submit via the form, linked here:

4 | How do I see The Plan in my own calendar?
Only Premium subscribers have access to The Plan for Google or Apple Calendar. Events are added daily, often several months out.
Free subscribers just get a newsletter every Thursday which, for many events, is much too late to buy tickets or plan ahead with friends or family.
A paid subscription is only $5/mo or $50/year. It’s a complete sanity-saver and I think it’s well worth the small investment.

5 | Where can I buy your printable guides?
I’ve got big plans, folks. Click the link below to buy our first printable – the Summer Bucket List Guide – and get a glimpse of what’s coming up. I’ve also got a free Local Farmers Market printable in there, too.
6 | How do I get featured in The Plan?
Right now, The Plan is entirely a reader-supported publication. That means I accept no advertising or sponsorships at the moment.
If you want to be featured, the best way to do that is to pitch me a great idea. I’m always looking for local experts with a niche expertise.
I think sharing your local kid-friendly recs is a great way to reach the 575 local parents who subscribe to The Plan. Right now, my email open rate hovers at around 75%, which is kind of insane.
To me, sharing personal recommendations is more authentic (and memorable!) than an ad, it humanizes you, and it’s an extension of your personal brand. Plus, if I choose your idea for a post, you can literally promote anything you want in your bio at the end.
Eventually, I may consider sponsored content options, like:
A traditional newsletter sponsorship – I’d probably include a note at the top of the newsletter that says “Today’s issue of The Plan is brought to you by [business XYZ].” Stay tuned on that.
Sponsored content – This could be a dedicated post or a featured Q&A with a local, small business owner about a relevant topic (e.g., “It's Daylight Saving Time, Guys. Ask This Baby Sleep Expert Anything.”)
Stay tuned on that. Meantime, if you’ve got an idea on how we might work together, get in touch. I’m flexible.
7 | Can I gift The Plan to someone?
A longtime Premium subscriber just asked me if she could gift a yearly membership to The Plan to a friend who just recently moved to New Canaan. I think that’s the sweetest, don’t you?

8 | Do I need to download the Substack app?
No. You don’t need to download the Substack app to read The Plan. You can just choose to read every e-newsletter in your email inbox (“as God intended” - Ana Marie Cox). But honestly, I prefer the app. It’s so beautiful.
Plus, if you love audio, you can literally listen to The Plan anywhere. I’m a huge podcast listener, so I love that I can listen to all my Substack newsletters like I would a podcast.
The Notes section and the Chat section is cool, too. I plan to focus on those two features in the coming months as I think they could be great for community-building.
