Hooboy, it’s going to be a hot and sweaty 4th of July. Are you ready?
If you plan on heading to a fireworks show (a few start this Friday!) make sure you bring an umbrella or stake out an extra shady spot as you wait for the show to start. Bring lots of water & sunscreen (obviously) and maybe invest in a couple of these battery-operated misting fans for you and the kids.
Today is a quick one. I’ve got a few recommendations for what to bring to a BBQ get-together, and a roundup of all the fireworks shows I could find. Note: A few of the fireworks shows are ticketed events reserved for town residents, so just read the fine print as you make your plans.
One last thing: On June 30, I’ll send you details on how to purchase our first-ever crowd-sourced Summer Bucket List.
It’s jam-packed with 180+ ideas from real, local parents who can personally vouch for them. It’s the kind of guide you can print out and reference all summer when inspiration strikes. In it, you’ll get:
A 20+ page downloable booklet you can print out and keep on the kitchen counter;
A bucket list worksheet you and your kids can fill out together;
Access to a private Google Maps list to help you view everything by location and map out your summer adventures.
I’ll offer a steep discount to paid subscribers, so upgrade now if you want a sweet deal. (Parents who contributed a great recommendation get it for free.)
On dessert duty? My girls had a ball making these patriotic fruit skewers for a picnic a few years ago. You can use any combination of red & blue fruit, and either bananas or marshmallows.
On pasta salad duty? Here’s a red, white and blue pasta salad idea from one of my favorite recipe bloggers / cheese plate art extraordinaire,
of That Cheese Plate.Need a game to play at the BBQ? Do an interpretive dance contest with sparklers. Each adult dances their heart out to every patriotic song you can find (here’s a good playlist) and the kids vote on the best dance. We did this last year and I almost fell over from laughing so hard. I’m pretty sure my dad won.
Here’s a rundown of some fireworks shows around town this week. I included events in South Salem, Ridgefield, Tarrytown, West Point, Pound Ridge, Katonah, New Canaan, Somers, Wilton, Weston, Redding, Norwalk, Westport, and Danbury.
Subscribe to The Plan calendar to see all of these, right in your own calendar. It’s $5/mo or just $50 for the whole year (about $4/mo).
